About Laurel G.

Children’s book Author

About Me

I fell in love with books as a child at The Rye Free Reading Room. Years later, my daughter and I exhausted the picture book collection at our local library in Lewisboro, New York.  That’s when I started writing picture book stories of my own.  Apart from writing, I like gardening and planting native plants that attract birds. A few times a month, I take a short train ride into Manhattan. Not surprisingly, the enchantment of birds and the magic of New York City are reflected in two of my picture book stories.

What inspires me is cultivating in children a sense of wonder and curiosity about nature and introducing them to the brilliance of art and architecture.

Laurel G. Writes

Laurel G. writes picture book stories!

Laurel wrote I Wish They Would Come in for Tea (subtitled Making Friends with Birds), a sweet little board book story, hoping kids would fall in love with birds as much as she has.

Laurel wanted to introduce kids to fine art in a fun and exciting way, so she wrote Betcha I Can Roll that Dime All the Way Down the Guggenheim!, a fast-paced, rollicking read-aloud.

In a story called Dog Daddy, Laurel wrote about a girl who, like Laurel’s own daughter, has a father who is allergic to dogs.  The girl deals with her predicament in a funny (and absurd!) way.
